EASTER

CHRIST IS RISEN

CHRIST IS RISEN INDEED

You have grown up with the symbols of Easter just as I have.

Most of them belong to a common theme…

The theme of something that was hidden

emerging in a different form.

Chickens emerge from eggs…

Dragonflies climb up onto fragile stalks and

only fly away after their wings have emerged and dried…

Crocus bulbs beneath the half-frozen soil emerge as flowers…

Butterflies were once caterpillars…

but they are another thing entirely when they take to the skies…

So on this Easter Sunday that is so unfamiliar in so many ways,

lay aside the familiar symbols and BECOME the symbol.

We who have been hidden in our houses for so very long–

LET US EMERGE AS SOMETHING DIFFERENT!

Let us emerge stronger than we were…

Let us emerge more empathetic than we were…

Let us emerge more alive than we have ever been…

Step outside today…even if it is only for a moment or two.

Remind yourself what a miracle it is

to emerge from such dormancy;

Remind yourself that the Resurrection is real.

While you are outside, let your senses both

calm and invigorate you.

Stop to look at 5 beings that are alive…

Stop to hear 4 of the sounds of spring…

Stop to smell 3 of fragrances of temporary freedom…

Stop to touch 2 of surfaces that you haven’t touched in awhile…

Stop to “taste and see that the Lord is good”…
